IS VACY HALL AIR CONDITIONED?

Yes.  The decision by Harry Marks, the legendary forward-thinking architect, to incorporate a passive thermal tower (which uses thermal dynamics to draw cool air from below house in behind hot air that rises through the 9 chimneys) into Vacy Hall's design 120 years ago means the air-conditioning doesn't need to work very hard to deal with the extremes of summer and ensure our guests are comfortable.  To take the chill off rooms we have two gas-fired heating furnaces which pump ducted hot-air into the house during winter.  Reverse cycle air conditioning is installed in the Gardener's cottage and in the Queen ensuite fireplace rooms. 

WHY DOES VACY HALL CHARGE GUESTS $25 TO LIGHT A FIRE?

At Vacy Hall we have a daily fire service charge of $25 if fires are lit.  This charge contributes to the costs of purchasing, storing and replenishing the seasoned hardwood logs, purchasing, storing and replenishing the kindling baskets with both hardwood and softwood, purchasing and replenishing the fire starters, staff costs to sweep the hearth clean each day and safely removing any hot ash in an ash bin and then resetting the fireplace each day.  We do this with a fire structured so our guests only have to strike a match to the fire.   It also costs more than the $25 in materials and staffing than we charge.  We believe it is fairer to charge those who use the fireplaces than put the prices up for everyone else.

In addition to the costs which are not recovered:

  • we spend about $800 a year having all the chimneys cleaned,
  • there's also significant extra costs each year in insurance premiums so guests can light fires.  
  • We also have to manage fire safety compliance systems with periodic audits and maintenance of systems like smoke detectors, fire extinguishers and evacuation procedures.
  • In this day of extreme political correctness, regulations and government cost recovery, there is also a need to manage the risk of unwanted fire alarm call out charges from the Queensland Fire and Emergency Service. If a guest is negligent and triggers a smoke detector by lighting a smoky fire and the fire brigade is called out without being needed, then negligent guests may may find themselves facing a charges of about $1200.  We spend a lot of time with guests explaining how to light a fire and how to manage the risks of lighting a fire.

Unfortunately, life is not as simple as it was.

IS VACY HALL SUITABLE FOR FAMILIES?

Yes. Some rooms can accommodate 3, 4 or 5 people in rollaway beds. There are two rooms with an interconnecting door. If you require these specific rooms it's best to book by telephone.

ARE PETS ALLOWED?

Yes.  Small well behaved dogs are allowed in the Gardener's Cottage by prior arrangement. No pets are allowed in Vacy Hall. Of course seeing-eye dogs are always welcome. Please discuss your requirements prior to making a booking.  See Terms and Conditions/Pet Policy for more details.

IS VACY HALL WHEELCHAIR FRIENDLY?

Yes. There is ramp access to all rooms which are located on a single level. Unfortunately our bathrooms are not wheelchair friendly as they have a small step. A showering stool can be added on request. Please enquire at the time of booking for the room most suitable for your requirements.

IS OFF STREET PARKING AVAILABLE?

Yes parking is available on the grounds, however it is not undercover.

IS THERE A RESTAURANT AT VACY HALL?

No. We have a kitchen and can provide delicious and healthy breakfasts to your room, the verandah off your room or our conservatory-like verandah off the guest lounge. There are an abundance of fabulous restaurants in close proximity and suggest you browse our Attractions section for ideas. If you book the Gardener's Cottage - you will have your own fully operational kitchen for self catering.

IS SMOKING ALLOWED?

Smoking is ONLY permitted outside, ashtrays are provided for this purpose. Please close the windows to your room if you are smoking outside. You are welcome to smoke on the verandah, but we would appreciate restraint when breakfast service is happening. Please do not smoke inside your room.

IS THERE OUTDOOR RELAXATION SPACE?

Most rooms open directly onto the wide shady verandahs where there are tables, chairs, swing seats and cane recliners which can be used by guests.

ARE THERE BARBECUE FACILITIES?

No, we do not provide barbeque facilities.

WHICH LANGUAGES ARE SPOKEN AT RECEPTION?

English.

DOES THE HOTEL ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS?

Payments can be made securely online at the time of booking or at reception by cash, eftpos or credit (we accept VISA, Mastercard and American Express). A small surcharge will apply to credit card transactions.

IS IT POSSIBLE TO CONNECT TO THE INTERNET AT VACY HALL?

Yes. Free wireless NBN broadband is available. A password is required to access the connection.

DO YOU SUPPLY A VARIETY OF BEDDING?

Each bed is supplied with fresh, crisp, starched, quality linen, electric blankets, doonas, blankets and comforters or throw rugs.

IS THERE A SELECTION OF PILLOWS AVAILABLE?

Yes. All rooms are prepared with several pillows per bed and other pillow options are available through reception.

DO I NEED TO BRING A HAIRDRYER?

No. All rooms have hair dryers provided.

DO I NEED TO BRING A BATHROBE WHEN I STAY?

No, all rooms have big fluffy towelling bathrobes, which add that little touch of luxury.

IS THERE A TV IN THE ROOM?

Yes. All rooms have a High Definition digital television.

CAN I ACCESS INTERNET VIDEO STREAMING ON MY TV?

Yes we have Google Chromecast available at reception for guests who wish to stream Video onto TVs using our free NBN wifi.

WHAT HEATING IS AVAILABLE AS WE’VE HEARD TOOWOOMBA CAN BE COLD IN WINTER?

You should never be cold when you stay at Vacy Hall. Environmentally-friendly natural gas fired central heating is provided to most rooms. Other rooms have oil fired heaters. 8 rooms have wood-fired fireplaces. All rooms have electric blankets on the bed.

DO THE ROOMS HAVE A VERANDAH?

Most rooms open directly onto verandahs. If it is important for you to have one of these rooms, please state this preference in the comments field of your online booking, or call us directly.

IS ROOM SERVICE AVAILABLE?

No. If you require home delivered meals we can provide you with the names of restaurants that deliver.

IS BREAKFAST INCLUDED IN THE PRICE AND WHAT TYPE OF BREAKFAST IS SERVED?

No. We have an unbundled approach to pricing breakfast to give guests the greatest amount of flexibility. You can choose to have either a continental breakfast or a full cooked breakfast, or no breakfast at all. Breakfast details.

DO YOU CATER FOR SPECIAL FOOD NEEDS?

Yes. Please amend your breakfast order form to inform the kitchen of your dietary requirements.

DO YOU CATER FOR VEGETARIAN GUESTS?

Yes. Vegetarian menu options are contained on the breakfast menu. For example, at present we offer a vegetarian scrambled eggs with spinach, fetta and pine nuts served on Turkish toast and garnished with chives, or sauteéd field mushrooms in herb and garlic butter served with Turkish toast.

WHAT TIME SHOULD I ARRIVE AT YOUR HOTEL?

Check-in time is normally from 2pm. The office closes at 6pm Monday to Saturday and 1pm on Sunday. If you arrive out of office hours you room key will be left in the after hours key safe.

We understand it is not always possible to be here by 6pm and have a late arrival procedure in place to accommodate this – if you think you will be late please let us know when making your booking or call us on 07 4639 2055. If you require an earlier check in time please let us know at the time of your booking so can try to have the room ready for your arrival. We do our best to accommodate your preferences but sometimes it is not possible.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I AM GOING TO ARRIVE LATE AT VACY HALL?

The office closes at 6pm. If you are arrive after 6pm we will leave your key in they key safe beside the entry to reception and will text you you the access code.

WHEN IS THE DEPARTURE TIME?

The office is available to assist you with checking out between 7am and 10am.

IS THERE A MICROWAVE WHERE I CAN REHEAT SOME FOOD

Yes the guest amenity cupboard (in the hallway near the backdoor opposite the kitchen door) has a microwave, a small fridge with extra fresh milk if required, as well as crockery, cutlery, knives, platters, and extra glassware for guests use.

CAN I GET EXTRA MILK, TEA OR COFFEE IF REQUIRED?

Yes there is a supply of extra provisions of Milk, Teas, Coffee and Sugar in the Guest amenity cupboard (in the hallway near the backdoor opposite the kitchen door) for guest use.
